chapter  13
Personal Commitment in the Transference of Theory Into Practice
Pages 8

In framing this volume for the contributors, the editors postulate that a disconnect exists between the development of a reliable theory and the transference of that concept into common practice that can strengthen the functioning of organizations. Implicit in the editors’ judgment is the belief that additional inquiry can offer new, more effective insights into bridging this gap. Yet, the article by Delbecq-and approximately 40 years of research on knowledge diffusion and utilization-suggest that demonstrable methods are currently available to test applicability and when used properly allow for a fair marketplace evaluation. Based on this perspective, the critical question becomes, “Why don’t more theorists and researchers avail themselves of these established means?”
