Postconcussional Disorder: Background to DSM–IV and Future Considerations

This chapter is written for two reasons. In the first section, we attempt to shed some light on why the postconcussive disorder was introduced for the first time in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th ed. (DSM-IV). The second section addresses a number of issues for consideration in refining the diagnostic criteria for a future DSM-V.
