ABSTRACT

Although privacy is sought at one time or another in virtually every human culture, society’s acceptance of one’s claims to privacy is not always forthcoming (Nyberg, 1993). The reasons for this conflict are plentiful. Sometimes society’s need for openness and disclosure runs counter to one’s own need for closedness and privacy. Much of the work rests upon the individual to strike the balance between revealing and concealing just enough to satisfy both the individual and society.
