ABSTRACT

A traveling scorpion came to a stream. She asked a frog, “Will you take me across?” The frog expressed concern, “But you will sting me!” The scorpion replied, “No! To do so would mean your death. I would then drown and that’s not in my self-interest.” Upon reflection, the frog agreed to serve as transport. All went well until they reached the middle of the stream. Suddenly, the scorpion stung the frog. The dying frog asked the drowning scorpion, “Why did you do that

knowing we both will die?” The scorpion replied: “It’s ontological, baby-it’s my nature-that’s what I do.”
