ABSTRACT

A basic premise is that the field of consultation training needs review, revision, research, and a continuing focus to further develop the professional practice of consultation. This special issue considers the consultation training literature and the state of consultation training. In addition, it exemplifies some issues that are presently being conceptualized within consultation training as well as some areas in need of research and additional conceptualization. This issue considers topics that have received relatively little attention in the literature. In addition, the introductory and concluding sections point to some parameters, concerns, questions, and themes relevant to future consultation training and consultation training research. In general, there is little communication between consultants who differ in orientation. Nevertheless, there are common problems, issues, questions, and dilemmas facing consultation trainers across orientations. Articles in this special issue make this clear.
