Correlation Analysis in a Natural Experiment Design: Seeking the Opportune Grade Point Average Cutoff for Internships
Pages 16

In this chapter, I report on a study that correlates student grade point averages (GPAs) with the grades they earned in their internship. The research design calls for collecting self-reported data (student GPAs at the start of their internship) and comparing these data with the student final grades. The specific goal of the study is to determine the critical point, as measured in grade point average, where one may predict with assurance that the student will earn an A for the internship. The overall goal then is to adjust the minimum 3.0 GPA requirement downward in order to allow more students to benefit from the internship experience.
