Drawing attention to the importance of leader development, the chapters of this book highlight the knowledge and skills that leaders must acquire to be effective in transforming organizations. Leader development has been the object of surprisingly little empirical research within organizational behavior, industrial/organizational psychology, and related disciplines. Thus, the chapters of this book provide an important service to researchers and practitioners alike in addressing two fundamental questions about leader development: What knowledge and skills should leaders ideally acquire, over time, to excel in leading changing organizations? And, how do leaders develop over time?
