Toward a Science of Leader Development
Across the various chapters and topics addressed in this book, myriad issues related to the what, the how, and the why of leader development have been addressed. The purpose of this ﬁnal chapter is to brieﬂy summarize key issues and contributions and, more important, to also synthesize themes and set a future direction for the science of leader development. The goal is not to provide a single, testable model of leader development (too premature) or even to outline some version of a grand uniﬁed theory of leader development (too presumptuous). Instead, our purpose is to highlight what we see as the primary contributions of this book in furthering a nascent science of leader development.
