ABSTRACT

Summer school in Boston for academically at-risk students is part of a 15-month program to improve student achievement. As part of this Transition Services Program, students in grades 3, 6, and 9 receive additional math and reading instruction during the school year and, if necessary, in summer school before and after each of these grades. In Summer School 2000 and 2001, between 7,200 and 8,200 students enrolled in a 5-week intensive program to improve math skills, reading skills, or both.
