ABSTRACT
The constant presence of family and community is found in all literacy work that attempts to build, redefine, and nurture learners in settings that draw their strengths from the needs and interactions of their participants. Community literacy is that literacy which reaches out to a defined neighborhood and to those who live and work within its boundaries. Community literacy exists at its best when all interested residents can shape and define the learning opportunities.
