ABSTRACT

Literacy is no longer just knowing how to read and write—it encompasses much more: critical viewing and listening, using technology, and recognizing persuasive techniques in political campaigns or advertising, for example. When a game changes, the players on the field must change. Therefore, to obtain a broad perspective on the contemporary literacy game, we invited contributions from long-standing literacy developers, such as teachers, and also from writers of children’s books, and people who work in publishing, television, technology, art, and music. The chorus of voices from the literacy field grows large.
