ABSTRACT
As an educator I believe that it is my responsibility to empower my students to internalize the world around them. For this reason, we explore symbolism in our world, community, and in literature. Although symbolism and literary images can be difficult concepts for many children, I have found that my students allow their experiences and personal knowledge to guide them in understanding visual and literary imagery.
