ABSTRACT

Completion of your graduate/professional curricula, practica, internship, and other supervised clinical experience is merely the first step or set of steps through the doorway into a professional career. Ahead lie decades of practice, perhaps teaching, and service. There is a twofold task that awaits each of us: First, “unpacking and repacking” our knowledge and practice understandings and behaviors so that what we have absorbed during our basic educational and training days becomes truly ours and not merely second-hand residue from interaction with teachers and supervisors; and second, building on what we have winnowed out and made ours, adding to the base from continued observation, study, and interaction with clients and others so that we remain as fresh and up to date as we can.
