ABSTRACT

Deep venous thrombosis (DVT) is an acute condition of which the main serious

complications are phlegmasia cerulea, pulmonary embolism (PE), and in the long term

venous insuffiency. Heparin was the first efficient treatment of DVT, and Bauer was

the first to demonstrate the properties and the efficiency of heparin in 1950 (1). However,

as medical treatments are not completely able to avoid the main complications, inter-

ventional therapies have a place in the therapeutic arsenal, mainly in the case of

iliocaval DVT.
