ABSTRACT
A fissure-in-ano is a painful linear ulcer situated in the anal canal and extending from just below the dentate line to the margin of the anus. It is a very common condition that causes suffering out of proportion to the size of the lesion. In the acute phase, the lesion is often a mere crack in the epithelial surface but may cause much pain and spasm.
