ABSTRACT

KEY POINTS ■ Major risk factors for the atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) have been identified and

confirmed. These include: dyslipidemia, hypertension, glucose intolerance, insulin resistance, adiposity, cigarette smoking, physical inactivity, left ventricular hypertrophy, atrial fibrillation, and cardiomegaly, among others. Several of these have been selected to formulate CVD-specific multivariable risk profiles.
