ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION Q fever is a zoonosis, and as such, the epidemiology of this infection is very much intertwined with that of the animal reservoirs of the causative organism, Coxiella burnetii. Once physicians make a diagnosis of Q fever, they should try to determine the source of the infection. The subsequent investigation often represents field epidemiology at its best. In many health regions, Q fever is a notifiable disease.
