ABSTRACT

Soap and synthetic surfactants are commonly used in personal care products to increase the cleansing performance and to create a pleasant foam. They act on the skin surface by dispersing, emulsifying, and removing all types of surface soil. This includes organic material from detached scales and intercellular material (lipids, fatty acids, amines), body secretions, sebum residues, micro-organisms, and a variety of externally applied substances, such as makeup and medical ointments.
