ABSTRACT
The selection of an antigen represents one of the very first steps in the preparation of antibodies. Antigens are critical to the process. While some methods of making antibodies offer forgiveness (monoclonal antibodies), the purity and effectiveness of the antigen bear a direct relationship to the purity and specificity of the resulting antibodies. A few definitions will be useful.
