ABSTRACT

Ultrasound has been called the most widely used imaging modality in medicine. No demonstrable harm has resulted from its diagnostic use, and there are strict regulatory limits on the output. These systems are widely used for primary diagnosis as well as for screening, monitoring, and follow-up procedures. The equipment is movable — some even can be carried by hand — and it can have high frame rates. The many features of these systems have been summarized by Greenleaf.
