ABSTRACT
Clinicians face an immense challenge diagnosing mycotic infections in sick animals. Even more challenging is determining the significance of finding a yeast or mold in a specimen from a clinically normal individual. Should treatments commence after finding a potentially pathogenic fungus such as
Aspergillus fumigatus
in the blowhole of a cetacean or
Candida
spp. in a skin or gastric lesion?
