Medical Management of BPH Although this chapter focuses on the medical management of BPH, clinicians should recognize the indications for urologic referral and consideration of invasive therapy. These indications are moderate or severe symptoms, persistent gross hematuria, urinary retention, renal insufficiency due to BPH, recurrent urinary tract infections, and bladder calculi.
