Since the Rio de Janeiro conference in 1992 the issue of sustainable development has become a matter of increasing global concern. The main goals of sustainable development are focused on sound economic development in accordance with an intact environment and a fair global social balance. The trend of sustainable development requires chemistry to be cleaner and greener. The beginning of green chemistry is frequently considered to be a response to the need to reduce the damage to the environment caused by man-made materials and the processes for producing them.
