ABSTRACT

It has been said that many of the multidisciplinary pain clinics take on the characteristic interests of their director. True to this comment, as neurologist-director of a large multidisciplinary pain clinic, I place a significant emphasis in our institution on the

evaluation

of the nervous system. We never lose sight that pain is “an experience” and our approaches to the individual patient are always pluralistic, multidisciplinary, and multifaceted in character. We evaluate the patient as a whole and do, in fact, always use the traditional multidisciplinary approach, including those beneficial aspects of both behavioral and organic approaches to each person in our consideration of their pain problems.
