ABSTRACT
The supply of cadaveric kidneys is currently not sufficient to satisfy the increasing number of patients requiring renal transplantation. Expansion of the donor pool by overcoming immunological barriers, such as ABO incompatibility and positive crossmatches, would expand the availability of organs considerably and ultimately reduce mortality in patients with end-stage renal failure.
