ABSTRACT

In X-ray photon science, the photon beam is used to probe the state of a sample by spectroscopic, imaging, or scattering techniques. Even when we restrict ourselves to the spectral range from a few kilo-electron volts to a few tens of kilo-electron volts, in other words, soft-to-medium X-ray energies, as in this chapter, the diversity of the applications is still large and ranges from fundamental research to materials science, chemistry, and life sciences. Furthermore, the size of the sample under study, as well
