ABSTRACT

Nanoparticle plasmonics is a rapidly emerging research field that deals with the fabrication and optical characterization of noble metal nanoparticles of various size, shape, structure, and tunable plasmon resonances over VIS-NIR spectral band. The recent advances in design, experimental realization, and biomedical application of such nanostructures are based on combination of robust synthesis or nanofabrication techniques with electromagnetic simulations and surface functionalization by biospecific molecular probes. The chapter presents a brief overview of these topics.
