ABSTRACT
A Vision for the Department and the Community On February 10, 2007, a forum on police leadership was held at John Jay College in New York City. It was designed to promote educational opportunities for police leaders in New York State. John Timoney, the Miami police chief, was invited to give the keynote address. He was also joined on the panel by Providence, Rhode Island, Police Chief Dean Esserman; the former police chief of Rochester, New York, Dr. Cedric Alexander; Jeremy Travis, the president of John Jay University in New York City; and Dr. Maki Haberfeld, the director of the John Jay Police Science Program. Timoney was invited to discuss the challenges of police leadership in the United States.
