Species vary markedly in their sensitivity to pesticides, and this variation as a result of direct toxicity can be described by constructing a species sensitivity distribution (SSD). The SSD is a statistical distribution estimated from a sample of laboratory toxicity data and visualized as a cumulative distribution function (see Figure 5.1).
