ABSTRACT

Plant-and animal-based nutraceuticals are becoming increasingly important in the management of osteoarthritis and other articular arthropathies because there is a long history of some level of ef—- cacy in various Australasian and Asian cultures and because there is no effective, conventional drug “cure.” As with most nutraceuticals, those that are being used for the treatment of osteoarthritis have yet to be well characterized with respect to safety and ef—cacy in people and domestic animals.
