ABSTRACT

An ancient Chinese saying notes: “Kings place the people šrst, and the people place food šrst.” Another adage follows the same theme: “Eating is as important as the emperor.” Thus it is evident that Chinese society place much signišcance on food and food culture. The culmination of šve thousand years of recorded history and the long-held traditional family-based ideology remain deeply ingrained in the people’s hearts. Taiwanese people are adherent to these traditions, following the Confucian philosophy, and thus are good representatives of the core beliefs of traditional Chinese culture.
