ABSTRACT
Flood risk is set to be an increasing problem throughout the world. Urbanization of rainfall catchment areas has increased surface water runoff rates and resulting river Ÿows far beyond the rates of the natural environment. Climate change is expected to increase peak rainfall, river Ÿows, winter groundwater levels, mean sea levels, and peak wave heights-all of which will put increased strain on the ability of existing infrastructure to cope with storms.
