ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT With the fast pace of our world, optimizing the time spent in training is of the utmost importance for organizations. From a Human Factors perspective, this includes designing systems with improved usabi lity to support the efficient delivery of instruction. Foundational design principles can be applied to increase the efficiency of learning events and accelerate learners through training. In this paper, we define accelerated learning in the context of our approach to training design. We also provide an overview of the XL Framework, a framework designed to support accelerated learning. This approach involves accelerating learners through content via system design and accelerating the learning process through instructional design. Engagement as a measure of training effectiveness is described, as well as challenges to designing an accelerated learning system.
