ABSTRACT

In 2002, the United States Access Board published specific guidelines concerning transfers to amusement park rides however they were not based on evidence and only provide very limited specifications concerning transfers (ADAAG, Section 1 5) . The purpose of our study is two-fold 1) gather expert opinion on the relevance and strength of the scientific literature to date related to the performance of independent transfers among individuals who have lower limb dysfunction and 2) determine the impact of various environmental factors on transfer performance. Data generated in this study will be useful for developing new assistive technologies and making changes in the environment for the purposes of enhancing the transfer process.
