ABSTRACT

The increasing complexity of traffic requires an elevated driver's attention. Over the last years, this progress led to the development of a broad range of ADAS to disburden the driver from routine tasks. Moreover, these systems aim to increase the drivers' attention to traffic while making routine tasks most convenient. Otherwise it seems that this development enlarges the drivers' duties from the actual operation of the car to the concentration on and evaluation of the traffic and the assistance systems. However, the handling and control of ADAS requires an appreciable amount of the drivers' attention and will shift this from the street to the displays in the cockpit.
