ABSTRACT

Citarasa Engineering is a method for achieving affective design. It is inspired by the citarasa concept which means emotional intent. The method was developed to assist vehicle designers in analyzing and utilizing customers' affect in the design of vehicles. A vehicle buyer is assumed to seek and identify design features that are emotionally satisfying. The method is a 5 -step process, starting with Citarasa modeling as a theoretical basis for affective design. This was followed by gathering customer needs using a detailed questionnaire. The data were then analyzed using content analysis method to generate data tables that contributed towards WEKA data mining. In this process affective and functional requirements were mapped to design parameters that were formalized in Design Equations for Citarasa Analysis (DECA). Design of a truck living cab is used to illustrate the method.
