ABSTRACT

According to Linder and Saltzman (1998), wearing high heels spreads from the upper classes to working-class women after the latter part of the nineteenth century. Medical scientists have warned about the health hazards of high-heeled shoes for 250 years. It has been said that wearing high-heeled shoes has the following effects:

1. Puts weight on the toes 2. Changes the posture-the wearer’s body is thrown forward to maintain

balance 3. Increases lumber lordosis and anterior pelvic tilt 4. Increases the activities of leg muscles to maintain balance 5. Increases the activity of muscles of the lower spine 6. Changes the gait
