ABSTRACT

Depression is the most commonly occurring disorder of emotion regulation, affecting approximately 5% to 9% of women and 2% to 3% of men (American Psychiatric Association 1994). Depression is an affective disorder that manifests not only affective symptoms such as anhedonia, feelings of sadness, and low emotional arousal (Heller and Nitschke 1997; Loas et al. 1994) but also cognitive impairments in higher-order domains such as visual spatial attention, memory, and executive functions (Heller and Nitschke 1997).
