ABSTRACT

Honey has been used as a traditional medicine for centuries by different cultures for the treatment of various disorders. It is touted to the public as less toxic and more effective than conventional drugs for various ailments, because it is “natural” and its efcacy is based on knowledge gained over thousands of years. Although one can dispute the theory, primary care clinicians cannot afford to ignore the reality, which is that honey, having potential benets, is a newly emerging growth industry in the United States, Europe, and Asia.
