ABSTRACT

Dental caries, periodontal disease, and mycoses are the main infectious diseases of the human oral cavity. e important bacteria associated with these diseases are Streptococcus mutants and Streptococcus sobrinus for dental caries (Hamada and Slade, 1980; Loesche, 1986), Porphyromonas gingivalis and Prevotella intermedia for chronic periodontitis (Slots et al., 1986; Zambon et al., 1981), and Candida albicans for oral mycoses (Lynch, 1994; McCullough et al., 1996).
