ABSTRACT

Today's machine vision systems are more versatile and more capable than ever before, but the key to success still remains in providing a good image to process. What is most important in machine vision is how the image looks to the computer. This entry describes the considerations of part optical properties and application needs to consider in designing lighting for machine vision. This entry also describes the various types of light sources that are in use today in machine vision and discusses the use of the basic techniques of lighting most commonly used in machine vision applications.
