ABSTRACT
This entry introduces fingerprint, face, iris, voice, hand geometry, ear, signature, and vein recognition technologies, and compares different kinds of recognition systems. It presents the strengths and weaknesses of each biometric technology. While it is very important to choose the right kind of biometric system for a particular application, multimodal biometrics are the best choice in employing biometric systems. This entry analyzes the needs of the market and users for biometric technologies and systems.
