ABSTRACT

It is becoming increasingly clear that lipids act as a storehouse of molecules that exhibit biological activity. Lipids undergo metabolic transformation in the body to generate molecules that occupy and activate distinct cell surface receptors to exhibit pharmacological activity. Lipid mediators have an important role in biological systems under physiological and pathophysiological conditions. Quite a few clinically ef™cacious drugs have reached the market that work by modulating the pharmacology of bioactive lipids.
