ABSTRACT

Achieving long-term weight management is widely recognized as an important factor in reducing risk of many chronic diseases as well as enhancing quality of life. Short-term weight loss can be achieved by a number of different dietary plans (Dansinger et al., 2005). However, if weight loss cannot be maintained, and in fact is subsequently reversed, this may have adverse effects on health. Studies have shown that losing and regaining weight repeatedly may lead to worse outcomes than simply remaining obese (Jeffery, 1996).
