ABSTRACT
Rhonnie lives in a neighborhood about three blocks from her school. Jenny lives near her and they usually walk to school together. In years past, neither of the girls felt uncomfortable in their school walk, but things seem dierent this year. e quickest route to school takes them right past some gangster-looking guys who make Rhonnie feel very uncomfortable. She doesn’t like the way they stare and she thinks they are mumbling inappropriate remarks, but she can’t hear them clearly, so she isn’t sure.
