ABSTRACT
The entry describes the progression from S&OP to advanced planning and scheduling (ASP). With the evolution of supply chain and the enabling technologies, building blocks are available to construct systems and extend their use to supply chain partners. Unfortunately, business plans may contain equal amounts of hopes and guesses in combination with actual capabilities and customer needs. Functional silos or stovepipe thinking contribute to the limitations of these plans.
