ABSTRACT

Atomization is a process of breaking up bulk liquid into many small droplets. In order to have good combustion, fuel and air must mix well. A bulk liquid has a limited surface area to contact with the air. This is the reason that liquid fuel, or more speci˜cally, fuel oil, requires atomization before burning. Atomization increases the liquid surface area, which results in an increase of fuel evaporation rate and fuel-air mixing rate. This improves the combustion process.
