ABSTRACT

Among “rms engaged in natural gas gathering and sales in the northeastern part of the state was Oklahoma Natural Gas Company (ONG). It was there that John Steele Zink (Figure P.1b), after completing his studies at the University of Oklahoma in 1917, went to work as a chemist. Zink’s chemistry and engineering education enabled him to advance to the position of manager of industrial sales. But while the wasteful use of natural gas due to inef“cient burners increased those sales, it troubled Zink and awakened his talents “rst as an innovator and inventor and then as an entrepreneur.
