A result of Lyubich [Ly83] asserts that for each rational map f : P1 → P1 of degree d ≥ 2, there is a unique probability measure μf of maximal entropy log d. It is ergodic, satisfies f∗μf = d · μf and is carried outside the exceptional set of f . This measure is the equilibrium measure of f .
