ABSTRACT

Holding high her ever-glowing lamp and the Declaration of Independence,  a broken chain at her base, she welcomes those who have sought refuge from being bound by chains, tied by the hands of selsh governmental powers (Figure 30.1). “Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame, with conquering limbs astride from land to land,” the female silhouette of the Statue of Liberty depicts warmth for those who need nurturing. What a

monumental sight to see when arriving on the shores of a dream-fullling land. And what an encompassing poem that welcomes strangers to walk through her golden door of prosperity as she lights the way. Despite hardship, war, hatred, or great depression, she holds her peace-representing torch high for the world to see that freedom is the true American dream.
